The Easiest Silk to Sew
CDC's pebbled surface creates natural grip between fabric layers. It doesn't slide around on the cutting table like charmeuse does. Pins hold, seams stay aligned, and the fabric feeds evenly through the machine. For garment manufacturers working with silk for the first time, CDC is the safest starting point.

Wrinkle-Resistant for Travel and Daily Wear
The twisted yarns in CDC give it natural wrinkle recovery. Garments made from CDC hold their shape through a full day of wear and pack well for travel. This makes it a strong choice for everyday blouses, work dresses, and travel-ready collections where low-maintenance is a selling point.

Matte Finish — An Alternative to Glossy Charmeuse
If your product line needs silk without the shiny look, CDC is the answer. Both sides are matte with a subtle texture. This understated finish works for professional wear, daytime dresses, and brands that want a more relaxed, modern silk aesthetic. Same silk quality, different visual identity.

FAQ
Silk crepe de chine is a lightweight silk fabric woven with highly twisted yarns in alternating S-twist and Z-twist directions. This creates a matte, slightly pebbled surface with good drape and natural wrinkle resistance. The name translates to "crepe from China."
We produce silk CDC in 8mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, and 19mm. 12–14mm is most common for scarves and blouses. 16mm is the standard for dresses and formal wear.
CDC is one of the most wrinkle-resistant silk fabrics. The twisted yarn construction allows the fabric to spring back from creases. It packs and travels much better than charmeuse or satin.
Charmeuse has a glossy front and smooth, slippery surface. CDC has a matte, textured surface on both sides. Charmeuse is shinier and more fluid; CDC has more body, is easier to sew, and wrinkles less. Choose charmeuse for lustrous products (pillowcases, pajamas) and CDC for textured, matte products (blouses, dresses).
Yes. CDC accepts both digital and screen printing. The textured surface gives prints a softer, more diffused look compared to the sharp prints on charmeuse. Good for watercolor-style and artistic designs.
Silk CDC typically shrinks 8–12% after first wash — higher than charmeuse (3–5%). We offer pre-shrinking service that reduces shrinkage to under 3%. Strongly recommended before cutting.
Stocked colors: 50 meters. Custom dyeing: 100–200m per color. Printing: 50m per design.
Silk Crepe de Chine — Weave Structure, Variants, and Applications
How Crepe de Chine Is Woven
CDC is woven using a plain weave with alternating pairs of S-twist and Z-twist weft yarns inserted into untwisted warp yarns. The high twist (2,000–3,000 turns per meter) creates tension. During finishing, the yarns partially untwist, producing the characteristic pebbled, crepe surface. This is what gives CDC its matte look and wrinkle resistance.
Silk CDC vs Georgette vs Chiffon
| Crepe de Chine | Georgette | Chiffon | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Surface | Smooth pebble, matte | Grainy, crinkled, matte | Smooth, slightly rough |
| Transparency | Semi-opaque | Semi-sheer | Very sheer |
| Weight | Medium | Medium-light | Lightest |
| Drape | Flowing with body | Flowing with body | Very fluid, floaty |
| Wrinkle Resistance | Good | Good | Low |
| Best For | Blouses, dresses, work wear | Dresses, evening wear, sarees | Overlays, veils, scarves |
Care Notes
- Hand wash cold or dry clean. CDC shrinks more than satin-weave silks — pre-shrinking before cutting is recommended.
- Iron on medium-low with steam. The textured surface can handle slightly more heat than charmeuse.
- Store flat or rolled. CDC recovers from creases well but prolonged folding can leave marks.
